Bungie Teases More Destiny 2 Exotic Weapon Buffs

This week, developer Bungie deployed the March update to Destiny 2, which, among other things, changes to the game’s sandbox and adds unique Nightfall rewards. But now that Update 1.1.4 is out, Bungie is turning its attention to the next planned update in May.

Leading the pack in changes for the next patch is a complete design pass by Bungie on Destiny 2‘s collection of exotic weapons. In its weekly blog, Bungie previewed the changes coming to the exotic hand cannon Sturm along with its synergistic Legendary sidearm companion Drang.

When Update 1.2.0 launches in May, both Sturm and Drang will have boosted base stats to make them easier to use. Drang has now been given the Rampage perk (Kills with this weapon temporarily grant increased damage. Stacks 3x.) and a maxed out magazine of rounds.

When a player gets kills with Drang, which should also be easier with the help of Rampage, more ammo, and boosted stats, Sturm’s magazine is completely reloaded while stowed or overflowed up to 20 rounds on consecutive kills with Drang. And that’s where a big change comes in; Drang’s overflow rounds are getting a 1.8x damage multiplier, which makes it possible to two-shot an opponent in the Crucible.

Bungie also shared a video of Sturm and Drang in action. Again, these weapons are meant to function together, reloading one another with each kill.

In the past, Bungie also teased changes that could be coming to the exotic pulse rifle Graviton Lance as well. Not all exotics are getting buffed; those that are already formidable will stay that way. So players can expect Legend of Acrius, Wardcliff Coil, and Vigilance Wing (which increased in power tremendously due to pulse rifle buffs in the March update) to still be popular.

It’s exciting to see that Bungie is powering up many of the game’s exotics because in general exotics have been lackluster in Destiny 2 in comparison to Destiny 1. These teases from Bungie look exciting, but the question remains if Bungie can continue to improve the game to replace the game’s decreasing player count.

Destiny 2 and its Curse of Osiris expansion are available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
