Fortnite Puts Teacher's Message to Students in Game

Fortnite Puts Teacher's Message to Students in Game

College campuses all around the world are full of distracted students: some are on social media, some are browsing off-topic content, and in the case of one class, the students are apparently playing Fortnite. It’s evidently pretty tough to play the game without one’s teacher noticing, and a recent Reddit post by a frustrated professor named Mr. Hillman covered this exact topic. Having discovered that many of his students were playing Fortnite Battle Royale on their mobile devices instead of focusing on his lectures, the teacher didn’t go the obvious route of asking the students to pay attention – he’d get Epic Games to do so instead.

While his students immediately dismissed the idea as a professor’s misguided view on how the world works, Hillman evidently thought there was a chance to make this happen. His querying post took off on Reddit, where many comments criticized his inability to control the classroom – and the fact that students could identify his Reddit account and see his post history – eventually led to Mr. Hillman deleting his post. Still, the message had been put out there.

After a week or so of radio silence from Epic Games regarding the request, gamers tuning in to Fortnite this week can now see the message: “Mr. Hillman says stop playing in class.” It’s not known how long the message will stay for, but the fact that Epic Games decided to help out a frustrated teacher in a funny and unique way is sure to spook the unwary students of his class into paying attention – at least for a bit.

Fortnite Teacher Message

Here’s the text from the professor’s original Reddit thread for context:

Hey Epic,

First, I love your game. My friends from college and I play pretty much every night. One problem, since mobile came out my students won’t stop playing in class. Idk if it’s possible, but I told them I’d write you and they didn’t believe me. Could you add this to the loading screen for a couple days to mess with them?

“Mr. Hillman says stop playing in class”

Understand if you can’t. But thanks for your time…. Also, Gus for life.. That is all. Thanks

Fortnite has continued to trend upwards in terms of popularity, and recently broke the YouTube record for most videos submitted about a particular game uploaded in a single month. With so many gamers hopping on to enjoy some battle royale madness, one has to imagine that Mr. Hillman is far from the only teacher who has come up against the popularity of Fortnite in classes.

Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
