The Game Awards wouldn’t be half of what it is without the sponsorship and support of several major publishers, many of which contribute world premieres to debut during the event. It’s an excellent opportunity to celebrate the great games of the year while also looking forward to 2017. Microsoft, among others, likes to go a step further and pass on the celebration to Xbox players, and tonight marks the start of the Xbox One sale for The Game Awards 2016, which highlights various nominees with big discounts.
Microsoft has gone out of the way this year to provide sales for a good number of nominees, along with very solid discounts. They may not compare to some of the best Black Friday deals, but for viewers of The Game Awards seeing some of the nominees for the first time, it’s a great opportunity to turn around and pick up a great game for cheap. It also helps that a lot of nominees this year are available on Xbox One, which Microsoft is certainly very proud of.
The highlight of the sale is of course for the The Game Awards 2016’s Game of the Year nominees, three of the five represented:
Also worth noting is that both Doom and Titanfall 2 also have their Deluxe Editions on sale, and EA has even put together a Battlefield 1 + Titanfall 2 Deluxe Edition bundle with a big discount. Those looking for the best deal should keep an eye open for special editions while they’re looking through the Microsoft or Xbox stores. The two nominees unrepresented are Uncharted 4 (a PS4 exclusive) and Blizzard’s Overwatch.
It isn’t just the Game of the Year nominees that have been discounted, however; discounts have been added for games in a number of other categories, including: Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Independent Game, Best Action Game, Best RPG, and more. There are well over two dozen discounts to be found, but here are some highlights:
There are, of course, plenty of other sales, including discounts on FIFA 17, Fallout 3, NBA 2K17, Overcooked, PES 2017, The Banner Saga 2, and XCOM 2. There are even discounts on some non-nominee games like The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls Online, among others. Consider this to be Microsoft’s post-Black Friday sale on top of its Game Awards 2016 sale.
The Game Awards 2016 will air on December 1 at 6:00pm PT, with a pre-show starting at 5:30. It will air live via a dozen different platforms including in VR.
